Satyajit Ray had changed the film making style and achieved perfection though his shooting sense. Though he faced many financial issues to make his first film Pather Panchali but as when he released the film, it was a cinematic success, box office success and Indian had found The Auteur Satyajit Ray .
The Pather Panchali is based on Bibuthibhushan Bnadhpadhyay’s 1929 Bengali novel with the same name. The film features Subir Banerjee, Kanu Banerjee, Karuna Banerjee, Uma Dasgupta and Chunibala Devi. The first part of the Apu trilogy is Pather Panchali which depicts the childhood of the protagonist Apu and his relationship with his sister Durga. The film depicted the harsh village life of their poor family. Ray was also trying to make a comment on the Nehruvian model of development which focused only on industrialisation & modernisation and thus leaving the large sections of society in poverty.
Pather Panchali revolved the wheels of filmmaking in Indian cinema. This film pioneered the parallel Cinema movement due to its authenticity and social realism. It went on to become the first film to win the award for Best Human Documentary at Cannes Film Festival. It begged for the National Film Award for Best feature film in 1955 and several other awards. It established Ray as one of the country’s most distinguished filmmakers. Pather Panchali achieved the status of the greatest film ever made.
