A family with no connection to terrorist activities gets grilled after its youngest son becomes one and leads to a bomb blast massacre. The leftover of the massacre brings a storm in the life of this Muslim family. Director Anubhav Sinha brings out the prejudice that often precedes people’s perception of the Muslim community in our country. The involvement of Shahid Mohammad (Prateik Babbar) as a suspected terrorist but refusal to surrendering leads to Topsy-turvy world of a Muslim family living with Hindu friends in the mohallas of Benaras. The police arrest Bilaal Mohammed (Manoj Pahwa) under suspicion of being involved in terrorist activities . Murad Ali Mohammed (Rishi Kapoor) is a well-respected lawyer and head of the family. They have no other option but to defend his brother and prove that they are as loyal and as patriotic as anybody else in the country.
Directed and Written with heavy words by Anubhav Sinha, the film throws light on propaganda against any religion and how it is destructive for the nation. The dramatic courtrooms in the films compels to think about the extreme Islamophobia that exists around us. The film also talks about the role of the media and other channels of communication in building a nation on right news and true facts.
The film was appreciated for his stand on this sensitive topic and was a box office success with earnings of $420 million. The film was nominated in six categories in filmfare awards including Best Actress-Critics(Tapsee) and Best Supporting Actor(Pahwa) and winning Best Story(Anubhav Sinha)
