Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffrey, better known by his stage name Jagdeep died at the age of 81 in Mumbai. The actor was laid to rest at a cemetery in south Mumbai’s Byculla neighbourhood . His son Javed Jeffrey with his brothers Naved and son Meezaan addressed the press and said,’There are a lot of people who have sent us messages but we couldn’t reply to everyone. Whosoever is watching this, we thank you for your blessings and love. Our father gave 70 years to the industry and got a lot of love and respect. That love is being reflected today, as we can see’.
The actor asked everyone to say a small prayer for his father, who gave his 70 years to bollywood.He said that the family isn’t going on the internet as they are not in that frame of mind and asked the fans and followers to remember jagdeep in their prayers.
Jagdeep started his career as child artist extra in B. R. Chopra’s Afsana and went on doing films Ab Dilli Door Nahin, K.A. Abba’s Munna, Guru Dutt’s Aar Paar and Bimal Roy’s Do Beegha Zamin. AVM’S Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke led him to be honoured with various accolades and High praise for his roles. First Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru gifted his personal staff to Jagdeep for his stellar performance in the film.
The late actor had appeared in around 400 films including memorable character turn as Soorma Bhoapli in ‘Sholay.’ His other major roles were in ‘Khilona’, ‘Brahmachari’, ‘Purana Mandir’, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ , ‘Phool aur Kante’.
