Article 15 starts with a Bob Dylan’s song,The answer is lying in the wind, and the new IPS officer Ayan Ranjan(Ayushmann Khurrana) comes to a new land in Uttar pradesh. The film is inspired by real life Badaun killings and director Anubhav Sinha’s tribute to Alan Parker’s 1988 procedural thriller Mississippi Burning . The film showcases how policemen try to close the case of murder and gangrape of three 15-year-old girls because they belong to a lowered caste. As the film moves ahead, we are revealed to many inequalities and stereotypical behavior present in the society. We are exposed to the plight of a dalit and the downtrodden in middle India.
Article 15 is directed by Anubhav Sinha and co-written by Guarav Solanki. Along with Ayushmann Khurrana, the film starres Nassar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta , Sushil Pandey, veen Harsh and Sumbul Touqeer in the main roles. The film puts light on the Artile 15 of the Indian constitution which prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion, caste, sex or place of birth.
This film was the opening film of the London Film Festival and received positive reviews from critics for the sensitive portrayal of its subject matter. It went up to earn 93.-3 crore worldwide and became a commercial success.
