Actress Usha Jhadav was one of the distinguished speakers at the Indian Pavilion at the Cannes Film Market 2020 virtually inaugurated by the Information & Broadcasting Minister Mr. Prakash Javedkar. Her Film ‘Mai Ghat’ (Marathi) is officially selected by Indian Government for India Pavilion at Cannes 2020. The National award winning actress also received the prestigious Silver Peacock’s Best Actress award at 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India(IFFI).
Usha Jhaddav is also giving her support to the GEMReport and UNESCO’s education campaign. Usha shared her support for education,” Education is the most important for the development of a country. Education is a weapon to empower women and change their life completely. Education is a tool to develop the growth of every child & brightful mind to the world.” Other members of Indian film fraternity including Prasoon Joshi, actress Kangana Ranaut and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar also attended the virtual occasion.
The Cannes Film Festival is one of the biggest gatherings of filmmakers and cinema lovers but the festival could not take place this year in May due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was announced in March that the five-day long film market which runs parallel to the Cannes Film festival will go virtual this year. The film market closes on Friday.
The Information & Broadcasting minister also called the cinema the “soft power” of India, Javedkar said that the ministry is continuously working towards making India a film shooting friendly destination.
